About the Artist
My lifetime of study has given me a facility with subjects and techniques. I studied watercolor with Waldemar Neufeld when I was a child. In my teens I studied with Herbert E. Abrams who introduced me to the teachings of Frank Vincent Dumond. From Herb, I learned the Dumond palette. Herb taught me that all paintings were landscapes and directed me to Frank H. Mason and the Art students League where I finished my studies in 1976.
Frank Mason expanded and encouraged my interest in the techniques of the Old Masters. I built a press to make cold pressed linseed oil which is necessary for the best mediums. Under Frank’s instruction I painted with Maroger Medium as I completed my study of painting and anatomy.
Mt. Rainier was my first mountain to gain me profit and a Best In Show award. Mt Mansfield, and Mt Everest were to follow. Frederick Church’s view form Olana with the Catskills over the Hudson became a staple and profitable icon of my Hudson River sojourns. I taught many years at West Point. I currently teach painting at the Washington Art Association in Washington Depot, CT.
I am noted for my florals with Hydrangeas, portraits and landscapes. Of all the achievements in my art career, I am proudest of my many talented students.
