About

My lifetime of study has given me a facility with subjects and techniques. I studied watercolor with Waldemar Neufeld when I was a child. In my teens I studied With Herbert E. Abrams who introduced me to the teachings of Frank Vincent Dumond. From Herb I learned the Dumond palette. Herb taught me that all paintings were landscapes. (I don’t know if he told Jimmy Carter he was a landscape.) Herb directed me to Frank H. Mason and the Art students League where I finished my studies.

Frank Mason expanded and encouraged my interest in the techniques of the Old Masters. I Built a press to make cold pressed linseed oil which is necessary for the best mediums. Under Frank’s instruction I painted with Maroger Medium as I completed my study of painting and Anatomy.

Mt. Rainier was my first mountain to gain me profit and a Best In Show award. Mt Mansfield, and Mt Everest were to follow. Frederick Church’s view form Olana with the Catskills over the Hudson became a staple and profitable icon of my Hudson River sojourns. I taught many years at West Point. I instruct painting at the Washington Art Association.

I am noted for my florals with Hydrangeas being a claim to fame.

I love the portraits I have painted but I am pleased best by the canvas that is wet on my easel. If I were to answer what I am proudest of, it would be of my many talented students.
